When my sister, dress designer Shareen Mitchell, asked me to design her new store on West Third Street in LA, I was on the next plane to California. We decided to make the store feel like a fabulously chic old apartment on Left Bank in Paris. However, choosing the direction was the easy part! The space needed a lot of work. To create the Parisian paradise, we needed to erect three walls, add significant architecture, and replace the building’s façade. While the construction was underway, we set out to find unique antique pieces. The antique gods must have been on our side, because in those few days we found some extraordinary pieces in record time. The result is a lovely, unique retail space with Old World elegance and sophistication. I love the look and, thankfully, so does Shareen.
